New Plastic Could Dramatically Increase Recycling

Researchers have developed a new plastic called vitrimer with bonds that are easier to break and recycle. Unlike traditional plastics that have additives making them difficult to recycle, the new glasslike plastic developed in 2011 has dynamic covalent diketoenamine bonds that require less energy to break. The result—products made from the new plastic vitrimer can be reused again and again.
