A recently released documentary called “Hillary” reveals a recording of Barack Obama calling Donald Trump a “fascist” in a phone conversation with Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia during the 2016 presidential election.
According to NBC, the video clip depicts Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s democratic running mate, recounting a call with Clinton that was recorded on camera in 2016.
“President Obama called me last night and said: ‘Tim, remember, this is no time to be a purist. You’ve got to keep a fascist out of the White House,’” Kaine said before adding that Obama “knows me and he knows that I could tend to err.”
Clinton is recorded as replying, nodding, “I echo that sentiment.”
Clinton then put her hands to her chest and said, “But that’s really — the weight of our responsibility is so huge.”
The video clip of the phone conversation appears in “Hillary,” a four-part documentary series airing on Hulu on March 6. Directed by Nanette Burstein, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, the docuseries will first premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
When NBC contacted Obama’s communication director, Kaine’s office and Clinton’s spokesman, all declined the opportunity to comment on the video clip.
